Katherine Venable - Senior

Major: Advertising

Minor: Marketing

kvenable8@yahoo.com

Discovering a love for the art of Advertising while still in High School, Katherine soon found a fascination for the entire industry. Following an early graduation from Marcus High School in Flower Mound, TX, she began college life at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls. After a year, she decided to head back closer to home and see what all UNT and Denton had to offer.

While born in Grand Prairie, TX, Katherine embraces both her British and American heritage and has traveled to Great Britain many times. A proud big sister to her near 17 year-old brother, she cherishes the strong bond she and her family share.

Katherine feels very lucky to have found an exciting career to strive for, which will undoubtedly keep her on her toes. While considering the Account Services side of Advertising, she is leaving her options open. If all goes well, Katherine would be thrilled to find herself working at a great agency, in an amazing city such as Seattle, Chicago, or New York. She would be very happy to combine that with her love of travel, and soon plans to study abroad in France - a country whose language and culture she enjoys.

As she enters her senior year at UNT, Katherine is excited to help NTAC grow in her role as Vice President. She plans to graduate with a degree in Advertising and minor in Marketing, by December 2009.

Jamason Fowler - Senior

Major: Advertising

Minor: Marketing

jabrfo@hotmail.com

Jamason is currently a senior at UNT. He grew up in Amarillo, Texas with his parents, older brother, little sister and two dogs, all of whom he loves dearly. He graduated from Tascosa High School and the Amarillo Children's Theatre School for Children in 2005. Then, he moved to Denton because he loved the creative atmosphere on campus and in the city of Denton.

A few things he loves are to sing as loud as he can when no one is listening, play tennis or volleyball even though he can get a little too competitive, and travel with his friends and family; he loves to get lost in a foreign city and find the cool things about it. He also loves to go out, celebrate anything, and everything with good company. A few things he doesn’t like are negative people, cats, and birds. He also has a weird phobia of wet paper.

He chose advertising as a major because it fits his personality well, and he likes that it combines art and business into one. He worked for an ad company in Amarillo for about a year in high school, and he just felt like it was the field he was supposed to go into. He hopes to work for a major ad company in either New York City or Boston after graduation and make millions.

Trevor Ayers

Major: Advertising

trevorayers25@gmail.com

Trevor Ayers is a senior advertising student at the University of North Texas. He has been an active member of the Ad Club since the Fall of 07’. He is interested in working in the field of advertising because of his fascination with brands and how they are placed in the media. Trevor has been positively affected and attracted to a product solely based on various ad campaigns in the past, and he wishes to help offer this same appeal to others.

Trevor was born in Dallas, but soon moved to Albuquerque, NM where he lived till he was six. His mom, brother and him then all moved to Garland, TX where he lived until his time at North Texas. Trevor’s mom Cathy has been very supportive of him and has aided him in trying to make his dreams come true.

Trevor has developed a love for the Adobe Suites and enjoys spending much of his time refining his skills and also just having fun with the programs. His plans for his final year at North Texas are to learn as much about the advertising industry as possible through school and internships, and to have a better understanding of the industry so he can be better prepared and more seasoned when he enters the field of advertising.

Kim Patel - Sophomore

Major: Marketing

kimpatel@sbcglobal.net

Kim Patel was born and raised in Bedford, Texas. Her parents moved from India to the United States only a few years before giving birth to her. Together they learned about American culture. Kim grew up speaking only Gujarati and later learned English in school. She graduated from Colleyville Heritage High School, where her younger sister is currently going, and is now a sophomore at UNT.

She is studying Advertising because she enjoys the versatility of it. She loves painting and photography but also enjoys math and marketing. She is a very cheerful, spontaneous, and social person and feels that this field does not call for her to suppress these qualities. Her inquisitive nature always prompts her to ask a lot of questions. She likes to learn about psychology, art, music, science, and pretty much anything that anyone wants to talk about.

Kim knows what she is passionate about and is determined to do the best where she is, but does not know what the future will be like. Her main concern is to continue loving life as she does now while making something of it.

Erin Mooney - Senior

Major: Advertising

erincmooney@sbcglobal.net

Erin Mooney is a twenty-two year old transfer student at the University of North Texas and will be the 2008-2009 Advertising Club Historian. Erin’s strong passion for advertising is what originally brought her to the University. Her main focus as Historian is to seek every opportunity to work within advertising and she looks forward to contributing to the positive and innovative happenings here on campus. This will be her second year on the North Texas Advertising Club. When asked “why advertising?” Erin stated, "for me its just the perfect fit. What first ignited my interest was the creativity and psychology involved with this business oriented subject. For instance, what motives would lead a person to buy a product, what emotions trigger responses in a consumer, why would a person believe they need this product? Analyzing a product with these types of questions and then molding them together into a creative work. I find the entire process fascinating."

Erin is not the first person from her family to pursue a career in this field. Her God brother, John Barker, is President of Barker/DZP Advertising Agency in Manhattan; her cousin Tim Coyle is member of the marketing team at Miller Brewing Company; her cousin Patrick Coyle is head of marketing for Gallo; and her grandmother Jen Mooney spent over two decades in marketing. She has even inspired her younger brother, who is going to be a freshman this fall at the University of Arkansas, to follow in her footsteps as an advertising major. Her favorite ad right now is the "eat cow, not chicken" for Chick-fil-A created by the Richard's Group. Erin stated "each ad is so cute and clever yet the humor doesn't distract from selling the product." These ads and others like them have influenced her and Erin someday hopes to land a job working as part of a creative team at a major ad agency.

Dr. Sheri Broyles – Associate Professor of Advertising

sbroyles@unt.edu

If there were a headline on Sheri Broyles' bio, it would be "Small-town Missouri girl makes good." Being from Chillicothe, Missouri had a major impact on who she is today. Her life seemed to be a Norman Rockwell picture from small-town America. One of the principals at the Dallas ad agency where she would later work said she had that great Midwestern work ethic. The other principal said she was too honest to be in advertising. Both qualities were ingrained in her personality from forever.

Her love for writing and music came together in her first job out of college doing advertising, PR and marketing for a symphony orchestra. It also brought her to Texas. From the symphony she went to a Dallas ad agency and learned how much fun the ad biz can be. "I also learned I could work 60 to 80 hour weeks and not consider it work," she says. Sheri's philosophy is never work for a living. Rather, do something you love (and if you love it, you'll do it well) with people you like. Then it isn't work. That's what she's doing now as an associate professor of advertising at North Texas.

She's teaching classes she loves and working with students and faculty she likes. Sheri's other job is being a mom to John and Kate and a whacko Rat Terrier named Jesse. She dotes on her kids and, if you're in her class, you'll hear all about their escapades. "Each year seems to be more fun," she says. Traveling, baseball, and reading are Sheri's greatest vices.

Jim Albright – Advisor of NTAC

dadalbright@gmail.com

Jim Albright practiced law two years, then got into something respectable... advertising. He has been a copywriter, broadcast producer and/or creative chief/group head for several agencies, including Tracy Locke and Bloom in Dallas, McCann-Erickson (world's largest agency) and president/creative director of Albright Council in Dallas (world's smallest agency).

Albright created, with art director Ron McQuien, the most famous Doritos campaign in history, running 12 years, starring Avery Schreiber and making Doritos Frito-Lay's number one product. He also worked on Borden, Exxon, Brown-Forman and hundreds of other national, regional and local accounts.

He left the agency life to freelance and added writing videos to his freelancing menu. It was a lovely life with irregular paychecks. So after ten years of freelancing, Albright decided to try academe, the cousin of freelancing but with a regular paycheck, and with the help of Texas journalism legend David McHam he became an associate professor at SMU (1983-1986), at Missouri (1986-1989) and has been an associate professor at UNT since 1989.
